German Camps, Polish Victims is a series of booklets on the media coverage of German occupied Poland during WWII. The first booklet is on the BBC coverage and its coverage of the German camps imposed on occupied Poland.

For generations it has only been too easy to find the world’s media writing in a negative way about Poland. The distortion about Poland during World War II started during the war itself. Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia spread lies about Poland that were accepted as true when the evidence said otherwise.

Sadly today many do not know the truth. This is the first report in a series on the media coverage of Poland during the war. It is an extension of the work carried out by Jan Niechwiadowicz with the Polish Media Issues group.

This edition looks at the British Broadcasting Corporation which is one of the largest media organisations in the world. How does the BBC cover the German occupation of Poland during World War II?
This report investigates three key questions

Has the BBC lived up to its commitment not to use insulting terms which imply the Poles were responsible for the German concentration and death camps?

Is Poland treated differently to other countries when it comes to describing the German occupation? How do they label responsibility for the crimes committed?

Does the BBC mention Poles as victims in the German camps?

It is hoped that this series of booklets entitled ‘German Camps, Polish Victims’ will extend the knowledge of the issues that the Poles have to face from poor media coverage of Poland during WWII and will contribute to more trustworthy and accurate reporting about Poles and Poland during the war.
