This is my second book by the intelligent Cary Allen Stone. This novel is better than the first if that is possible!!! I love thrillers and mysteries and Cary Allen Stone is certainly the best author in this department!!
In this book, Lori Peters (the serial killer in After the Evil, is returned to the U.S. to stand trial for the murders she committed before disappearing. Det. Jake Roberts was in love with Lori before her killings took place. There is now a copycat serial killer on the loose. He has threatened to kill three people and then Jake will be his fourth and finale killing. The serial killer is true to his word and commits three murders and now it hangs in the air that Jake is now the final victim.
This book is so exciting and suspenseful. I had to keep reading and didn't want to put this amazing psychological thriller down. I love Det. Jake Roberts and FBI profiler, Mika Scott. Also, you can't help but like Lori Powers even though she was psychotic. However, in view of the life she had had, you could almost, almost understand why she killed her victims.
Even though this book had some very graphic details on the murders, I loved it!!! It grabs your attention and you will be glued from page 1 to the end. Now to begin the next book, "After the Goode". Don't pass this series up!!
This is the second Jake Roberts book I've read from this author. I hope he writes at least a hundred more Jake Roberts novels. The first book I read I was a little unsure about the writing style, now I'm hooked with this second book. Unfortunately I seem to be reading them in reverse order (my bad). Anyway, I'm hooked. Thank you Cary Stone.
CAS has written the 2nd Jake Stone novel which shows the return of the female serial killer who had escape to France. When France return the female she is sent to prison. Jake already had his hands full with a male serial killer. Then the male helps the female escape and then the action starts. This an excellent read for the genre..... ER
What can I say about this book that others have not already said with great authority? It is worth reading if you are a huge fan of thrillers with murder, I suggest reading first, “After the Evil” as it is better to seep into the story line. After viewing the movie, "the ring" I believe this book is more terrifying because of the reality and facts played out in the story line. A movie needs to come out after reading this book. Your senses will be disturbed as Jake Roberts and Mika patiently wait for the arrival of the flight that brings Lori Powers back to the U.S. to face criminal charges, years have gone by. I love the part when Lori gets off the plane, "Here she is, Mika says almost not believing the moment herself. She pushes her fingers through her flowing, raven hair. Her mother's Asian features, almond eyes, and oval face complement her father's European ivory complexion. Her soft, beautiful face tightens at the sight of Lori." The anticipation is haunting because we find out if Lori can escape to help Jake who is being followed by a mysteries murderer that keeps Lori in the picture.
