This is a short and decent cozy mystery, a fast read. I had not read any of Angela Pepper’s previous work. Girl in the Shadows is not the best cozy I have read, but it has humor and likable characters, especially Chewie the beagle. I’m a sucker for stories with dogs and cats. Honestly, I had to go back and read the plot summary since I have read two other books since I read this, just to remind me what the story was. Doesn’t make it bad, just not memorable. My Kindle version came with a bonus novel that was longer, called Wisteria Witches, also the first book in a series. That one wasn’t as good, with the main character acting more like a teenager than her teenage daughter. Both books are complete, no cliffhangers, no bad language and no sex, if that concerns you. I doubt I will read any more in either series, but Girl in the Shadows is a good airport read and you will chuckle a few times.Product details

Girl in the Shadows edition by Angela Pepper Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
Ms. Pepper's sassy characters are a lot of fun. A couple of scenes were over the top, and so much fun you know it's all part of the story. Cozy mystery, especially with the loving relationships. Single mom, Zara, totally doesn't take her past seriously and you get to laugh with her. Magic, mystery, humor. What a fun and refreshing change from my last book. Perfect!
Haven't finished this book yet and had to see if there were more in this series. Disappointed that as of now there isn't but hoping there will be. I have read a couple of her Wisteria Witches series. In my opinion they are okay but I love the characters in this book.
I enjoyed the writing style very much. The use of humor between the characters and throughout the narrative kept me highly amused and reading just as the mystery itself kept me glued to the book.
The characters' relationship with each other was another thing that was fun insofar as I wanted to have more. The only negative I must address was that the story ended too quickly. I suppose I'll just have to keep reading this series. Thank you to author Angela Pepper for an interesting, fun and well-developed story!
Nicely flowing story. My first big problem was that there was no way for us to even guess who the murderer was. We did not see all the suspects, we went from scene to scene,m introducing newer and newer people. I just wrote another review for another book, where I said my problem was that we knew too soon. I guess there should be a middle-ground somewhere between the two. Second biggest issue the book ended at 30%. The rest is another book. A longer book. That has nothing to do with this one. I was expecting a lot more story, and then boom, it ended.
Girl in the Shadows (Cozy Mystery) This was such a great book! The strange thing was, in the same download, there was a second novel by Angela Pepper-and it was on about witches, which I have absolutely no interest in reading. I tried to find a second book in this what seems to be a series, but there is nothing available that I can find. What a disappointment. The combination of a young fairly clueless woman with a phenomenal memory combined with a shrewd old detective who is losing his plays out well, with good humor and writing. If the moral tone had been a bit better (she was sleeping with some guy she didn't even like), I'd have given the book a solid 5 stars.
Really enjoyed this mystery with the engaging Abby Silver! A temporary office girl she is co-opted into the sleuthing life of Derek Diamond and his beagle, Chewy. Unbeknown to Derek, Abby has a phenomenal which stands them in good stead later in the current investigation.
A happy novel with no wild sex, bad language or other untoward issues - and I just loved it. Hope for more Abby SIlver novels coming up?
Book was far too short, bulk of the download is a second book from the Wisteria Witches" series (which I didn't read).
Would read more of the Abby Silver mystery series, but none of witch one.
I hope the author intends to write a lot more in this new series which is fresh, with intriguing characters and she isn't trying to copy Evanovich's style.
Keep it up and keep it clean so more people can enjoy your work!
